Marketing Yoga for Senior Health

While yoga may be popular, its proven health benefits and adaptability make it more than a fad. As baby boomers age, adaptable yoga will more than hold its own as a fitness regime of choice. Learn how to market the practice to clients and make the most of yoga's outstanding popularity.  Baby boomers have always valued health and fitness as aspects of a balanced lifestyle. Though they have their health problems, baby boomers have powered any number of diet and exercise fads and brought yoga into the lexicon of American life. But yoga, in fact, is more than a fad – and, done properly, it can help baby boomers adjust smoothly to the aging process. An ancient discipline dating back to the India of 5,000 years ago, yoga means "to join together" and seeks to unite body and mind in an integrated experience of breathing, meditation, and movement. A yoga session is generally made up of different poses, or asanas, that stretch various parts of the body. Hatha yoga concentrates on breathing, balance, and motions that strengthen and stretch the body and enhance health. As such, mature market consumers can easily grasp its many health benefits. Other types of yoga, such as ashtanga, are more physically demanding, but mature market clients without prior experience will most likely seek feasible, non-intimidating varieties of practice. Yoga can also be marketed in terms of its efficiency. Just 15 minutes of practice a day can yield marked improvements, whereas aerobic activity generally requires more time. With periodic formal instruction, the yoga student can undertake work on his or her own and see brisk, satisfying results. The possibility of such results will attract students in their droves, if properly communicated: better balance and flexibility, increased strength, better concentration, stress relief, improved energy, and impressive relaxation techniques mean members of the mature market, as others, have everything to gain from embarking on a practice of yoga. With mature market clients it's especially important to ensure safety. Qualified teachers know how to judge form and correct errors. Slow pace and careful attention to levels of discomfort will guard against injury. Build customer confidence by emphasizing the breadth of your experience, commitment to your own practice and wealth of knowledge on the subject.  Always stress to knew students that they must inform you of any medical conditions, chronic injuries or other physical limitations that call for modification of normal poses. Encourage them to stop immediately if light-headedness, nausea or other physical disturbances occur. Mature market consumers, more prone to ailments, can usually improve their health with yoga more dramatically than any other group. Work out the right moves for these clients and go the extra mile to earn their trust – you will be do their health a great service, and promote your own business.
